This course - C# v2.0 integrated development environment (IDE) and other software

Last modified 08/07/2006

We will use the C# 2.0 language and Microsoft's Visual Studio 2005 Professional as the integrated development environment (IDE) for course projects.  A free license for it will be made available to you through the MSDN Academic Alliance; you can obtain the software by download or as a DVD loaner from CETS.  If no DVD drive, CETS can also provide CD's.  If you have problems with download and need to request physical media, please email with the request--copy me on the email and state that it is for CIS 573.

I am trying to get the following utilities installed in labs.  After installing VS.NET '05, please also download and install:

  1. VS.NET '05 update
  2. the Nunit test harness (v2.2.8 for .NET 2 on Windows -- also see how to configure and test your installation
  3. Microsoft FxCop version 1.35 RC 1 for .NET 2.0 on Windows
  4. the Visual Studio 2005 Web Application Projects.
  5. the Command Prompt Here power toy for Windows

You should also be able to develop your projects in CETS labs--but please remember to delete your code from the lab computer after each work session.

NOTE: If using Mac or Linux, you may be able to obtain Virtual PC software which allegedly emulates Windows well enough to run the .NET framework and VS.NET, assuming your computer has enough capacity.  CETS should be able to provide you with the Virtual PC software.
